Zimbabwean and African hopefuls seeking to migrate to the uk finally have the opportunity to do so in a simpler way. The heath care and skilled worker tier 2 visa route is one way you can relocate to the United Kingdom hassle free.
Here are guidelines on what documents you need to when you choose the caregiver career route.
1) Red Cross/ St John training and certificates.
From personal experience i have noticed that most recruiters and sponsors require that you have some sort of care giver/ healthcare assistant training in your home country.
2) Passport
You need to have a passport valid for at least 6 months or more. This will aid you in the application process for items such as visa application and tb test. Make sure you prioritize getting a passport ready as soon as possible. Currently passport prices are $120 for a passport that will be issued within 7 days (or earlier depending on volume of applications at that time). Nowadays there's no need to print any form of paperwork as the process has become digital. You need your original birth certificate and your National ID.
3) TB Test
You must be tested for tuberculosis (TB) if you’re coming to the UK for more than 6 months and are a resident of Zimbabwe. Your test must be from a clinic approved by the Home Office and you will need to obtain an IOM medical certificate confirming that you are free from TB. The Home office will not accept a TB test certificate from a clinic we have not approved. The current clinic address is stated below ( note address may be subject to change):
Clinic address
Diagnostic Imaging Centre (DIC)
10 Duthie Road, Alexandra Park
Harare
Telephone:
+263 4 704284/5/90
Mobile:
+263 772 125094
Email:
HarareMHAC@iom.int
Online appointments:
You can book your TB appointment online on the IOM website
If you receive a “NULL” message, it means the appointment is invalid and you need to rebook
To book an appointment for children aged 10 years and under, you will need to send a copy of their passport to the email address
Operating hours:
Monday to Thursday: 8am to 5pm
Friday: 8am to 1:30pm
Closed on national and IOM holidays.
4) IELTS test
IELTS is a requirement for those wishing to migrate to the UK. It is a way of proving that you can communicate adequately in the English language. There are two types of IELTS tests both of which are for UKVI visa application costing $338 (prices subject to change).
IELTS ACADEMIC , for those wishing to
study at undergraduate or postgraduate level or join a professional organization in an English-speaking country / territory. This one may be deemed by others as a more difficult or challenging type than IELTS General.
IELTS GENERAL , for those wishing to
train or study at below university degree level work or undertake work-related training in an English-speaking country / territory emigrate to an English-speaking country / territory.
Check with your agency or employer on the type of test you need to take as well as how the satisfactory band score they require.
Always book ahead of time and give yourself time to study. Once you have booked and made your payment study materials will be made available for you free of charge on their study portal.
5) Police Clearence
Police Clearence is required to corroborate the fact that you have no prior convictions in your home country. If you have lived in more than one country it is advisable to get clearence from all countries you have resided in.
6) Drivers License
While some employers may not make it a mandatory requirement it is advisable and advantageous for you to have a clean drivers license either class 2 or 4. This is important in cases where you may work in domiciliary care which is care for people in the comfort of their own homes and may need to travel to a lot of locations inorder to provide adequate care services to all patients. Being an experienced driver is an added plus and you can easily switch your licence for a British one at an affordable cost.
7) Vaccination Card
While the COVID 19 pandemic may not be such an issue anymore ,some employers but not all may require that you have your jabs as a precautionary measure. It is important to liase with employers on this one.
Once all this is complete make sure to create an adequate CV that will boost your chances of getting that interview and scoring that job. CV writing and interview questions and answers will be one of the next topics to be discussed in the newt blog. Questions and queries most welcome. Thanks for reading
